Six free sessions for people working to ensure a humane future
Like many people, I'm increasingly concerned about the risks of superintelligent AI. This challenge of developing safe and humane AI is both urgent and deeply complex; we need to pursue many strategies at once, not knowing which in the end will be most useful or relevant. Not being a researcher or policy expert, the best contribution I can give is to help people in leadership and influencing roles organize this critical human effort.

While the particulars of this global risk are unique, you face accentuated forms of classic leadership challenges: balancing depth with speed, balancing the urgency of the work with the needs of the people and organizations performing it, and rallying diverse stakeholders around a common cause. This is where I have a long track record of success.

To support a humane future, I am offering six free 1-on-1 coaching sessions for a limited number of people in leadership or influencing roles. If you are working to reduce the threat of extinction or dystopia due to AI, I would love to hear from you.

Why Coaching?
Coaching can take many different forms. For some clients, I act as a tactical sounding board and accountability partner. For others I'm a mirror, reflecting uncomfortable blindspots and unseen potential. And for yet others, I'm something closer to a spiritual counselor, helping them cultivate a deeper coherence of thoughts, feelings, values, and behavior.
In most cases, we work by identifying and reevaluating all the many factors shaping your decisions, giving each its due consideration and place in the whole. Often, that means giving more weight to the factors that are energizing, enlivening, or purpose-driven, and diffusing those impulses that are outdated or self-defeating. Over time, this leads to more alignment between your day-to-day behaviors and your long-term values and goals.

Specific topics we might work on include:
-
Staying grounded, creative, and effective even when stakes are high
-
Strategic thinking and decision-making under difficult constraints
-
Implmenting values or mission amidst tough organizational realities
-
Giving, receiving, and seeking out feedback
-
Balancing speed and patience, confidence and curiosity, structure and flexibility, etc
-
Sustaining energy and well-being for yourself and your team

Most of all, I want to help you look back at the end of a week or a year and feel proud of how you’ve shown up to this tremendous collective challenge.

While I am not a technical expert, I’ve followed AI capabilities and safety research for years, and know enough the field not to slow the conversation down. Ultimately, I am optimistic about the power of AI to make a better world, but clear-eyed about the work required to bring that good future about.
